Dwarka is city located in Gujarat one of the states in India. It is located on western Okhamandal peninsula on the bank of river Gomti. Dwarka is the one of the formost Chardhams, and is one of the seven most ancient religious cities in the country. Dwarka is ancient kingdom of lord Krishna , and is believed to be first capiral of Gujarat.

Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka


Dwarka is well known city as city of temples. there are plenty of hindu temples. The Dwarkadhish temple is cituated in the center of the city.It was built by Jagat sinhji Rathore thats why it is also known as Jagat Mandir. It is believed that this temple is 2500 years old where lord Krishna built his city and kingdom .

The Dwarkadhish temples are built in the 16 century . It is 5 storied and built over 72 pillars . The temple spire rises to height of 78 meters and very larg flag with symbol of the sun and moon is hosted on it. There is Garbhagruh , and Antarala in the temple . The main diety in the sanctum is of Dwarkadhish which is known as Trivikram form of Vishnu .and depicted with four arms .

History of Dwarka

Dwarka is believed to have been the first capital of Gujarat . The city name literally means "the gateway to haven". Dwar means Gate and Ka means Brahma . Dwarka has been also reffered through out the history as Mokshapuri . According to ancient history Lord Krishna came here after defeated or killed his uncle Kamsa at Mathura .
It has been argued that Dwarka was astablished as capital in Saurashtra by the Aryans During the Puranas . The Yadavas who have migrated from the Mathura established their kingdom when the city was known as "Kaushathali" . It was during this period the city underwent rebuilding and was named Dwarka . The kingdom also known as yadavas or Ahir kingdom .  It is said that Krishna conducted the administration of his kingdom from Dwarka while residing with his family in Bet Dwarka.
